Tutoring for Academic Support and Success

Welcome to ErickTutoring. I offer tutoring services for a variety of math and science subjects from Geometry up through Calculus and Differential Equations as well as Chemistry and Physics. On this site, you’ll find blog posts on various subjects that constitute free learning materials for some of the topics in these math and science classes that I’ve found students misunderstand the most. With over five years of experience as a private tutor, I have gained specific knowledge of many of the areas that are particularly troublesome for students. My teaching style consists of identifying these areas of misunderstanding for each student and addressing them individually. I try to put the concepts and problems in the context of other concepts and ideas that the student may know well.

What Makes ericktutoring Different?

These math and science courses are difficult. The concepts can be complicated and abstract. Unfortunately, many students are taught these subjects by just going through the motions, and the focus is on “how” to solve certain problems without going into detail of “why” you solve certain problems that way. The AP exams and certain college courses will particularly require students to display a more fundamental understanding of the concepts in order to get the score they want. This is what I try to focus on with students. In class, students often learn the individual pieces but see them as individual, disjointed topics. I focus on filling in the gaps by showing students how these individual pieces fit together to form bigger ideas. These once difficult classes become much easier for students once they see and understand these connections.

What People are Saying

“Great tutor. Definitely would schedule again. Daughter felt confident after a couple of sessions. He knew content and provided support.”

Iri N, College Calculus

“Erick is tutoring my daughter who is taking pre-med calculus at UC Davis in CA. She is extremely grateful to have Erick as a resource. He is the best. Literally.”

Jerry A, Calculus for the Life Sciences

“Erick tutored my twins in both AB and BC Calculus this past year. They learn quite differently and both reported that he was great at teaching them the concepts. They also enjoyed that he left them time to think as he asked questions.”

Tamara C, AP Calculus

“Erick tutored me in my college level calculus class and I would absolutely recommend him! I had to drop calculus the first time and was worried I might not pass it. I’ve never been great at math and having additional support helped me to not worry as much about taking this class because I knew I had help.

Erick met with me any day I needed in my apartment’s study spaces and understood exactly what I needed help with and what my instructor was looking for. He was familiar with all of the material and was able to make the most of all of our sessions. I told him math was not my forte and he was able to explain everything in a way that made sense to me. He’s super understanding and responsive and everything was convenient and helpful!”

Chain Rule: An In-Depth Analysis

The Chain Rule is one of the 4 or 5 main derivative rules that allow you to break down a function into smaller functions in order to find that function’s derivative. As with the other 4 or 5 main derivative rules, the Chain Rule is only applicable under certain conditions. Unlike the other derivative rules,…

Everything You’d Ever Want to Know About the Binomial Distribution

What is the Binomial Distribution? The Binomial Probability Distribution is a type of probability distribution that can be described by a probability mass function. Remember that a probability mass function describes the probability of discrete random variables. Therefore, a variable that can be described by the Binomial Probability Distribution is a discrete random variable. This…
